Our dental implants look, act and feel like real teeth.

  • Look and work better than traditional dentures.

  • They feel like your own teeth.

  • Last much longer than alternative treatments.

  • Refundable consultation upon take-up of treatment.

How Do Dental Implants Work?

The dental implant comes in the form of a cylindrical or tapered bolt. They are most commonly made from titanium to give an incredibly durable structure to your new implant. This ensures the longevity of the tooth implant. As your tissue starts to heal, your jawbone will start to fuse with the implant. As a result, the two regrow their structure in such a way that harnesses a strong foundation for your replacement teeth.

What Happens During The Treatment?

An initial consultation will take place in which your dental surgeon will discuss with you your options and assess your suitability for dental implants. This may require an oral x-ray. If you are suitable and decide to go ahead with the treatment we will book you in for your next appointment.

In most cases your dental implants will be fitted under a local anaesthetic. A sedative can be used in parallel with this to help you feel more comfortable. In some situations where your procedure involved more than one dental implants, you may have the treatment under general anaesthetic.

During the treatment your dental surgeon will make an incision into the gum. They will then drill into the jawbone to make a gap in which the implant will be fitted. The next stage of your treatment will vary depending on your own case. There are a few options:

You may need a second small procedure in which the top of the gum is uncovered at the place where you implant was fitted. This allows for us to then fix your artificial tooth. This can be permanent or temporary (delayed implant).

Another option is that at the same time as your first procedure, you may have the artificial tooth immediately fixed to the implant. This is less common but will be discussed with you at your consultation with the dental surgeon.

After the procedure we will book you in for a follow-up appointment at our dental clinic in Cardiff.

Who are Dental Implants Suitable For?

There are a few conditions that must be met in order for you to be suitable for dental implants.  It is important that you have healthy gums and enough bone to fit around the implant safely. This is important for the general structure and to ensure that there will be enough tissue and bone to keep your implant secure for the long term.

It is also key for dental implant patients to be prepared to maintain great oral hygiene which includes visiting the dentist regularly. As well as having great oral health, your general health needs to be good too. There are several diseases such as; diabetes and osteoporosis which can halt the healing process involved in tooth implant treatment. As a consequence the treatment can fail. It is important that you discuss any illness or disease you have with your dentist so that they can understand if you are a good candidate for dental implants.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

The Invisalign system is fast, comfortable and nearly invisible.

The Invisalign system works with the use of invisible aligners. Whilst undergoing your treatment you will be given a series of removable teeth aligners. You will be given a new set of Invisalign aligners every two weeks. They will be gradually adjusted in shape to move your teeth closer to the desired position with each new set of aligners. Each Invisalign aligner is crafted solely for your teeth so you can be sure that your teeth will be in their perfect position by the end of your treatment.

Invisalign Cardiff Consultation

The first step is to visit our dental surgery in Cardiff for a free consultation. Our head dentist and teeth straightening expert, Dr Dan, will talk you through the process and use his knowledge to decide if you are a good candidate for Invisalign braces.

invisalign xray cardiff

Dr Dan, will then take impressions of your teeth as well as a few x-rays of your dental structure. Dr Dan will work with Invisalign and their 3D technology to design the end position of your teeth. After Dr Dan is happy with the planned teeth movements he will give Invisalign the go ahead to begin fabrication of your clear aligners.

invisalign fitted

You are now given your first set of clear aligners to wear. You will wear these for a set period of time until your teeth have moved into the position of the aligner. At this point you will swap to the next aligner. This is repeated until your teeth are straight!

What Do Patients Say About Invisalign?

Invisalign is so widely used that more than 3 million people have used it as a route to the perfect smile. Here are two Invisalign patients telling the story of how they changed their smile and their lives.

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are wafer thin pieces of porcelain designed specifically to bond onto each individuals teeth like a cap. The porcelain is secured onto the front of the tooth and can be designed to your own specification. In general, the function is to give your teeth a more aesthetically pleasing look. However, they also help to protect the teeth and can give structure to teeth that may have been damaged in the past. This treatment is often used where patients have chipped teeth as well as suffering from discolouration, crowding of the teeth or if the teeth are uneven in appearance.

How much do cosmetic veneers cost?

The price of cosmetic veneers is dependant on many factors including the amount of teeth that you require them for, as well as the type of material used. However as a general guide the price as around £400-£500 per tooth. We do offer finance options that allow you to pay monthly and a free consultation for you to discuss in detail your options before going ahead with treatment.

Teeth Straightening Dentists in Cardiff

The process of straightening teeth often conjures thoughts of clunky metal braces that are unsightly and can sometimes have a significant impact on our self-esteem.

Thankfully the world of orthodontics has moved on greatly since then and a “mouth full of metal” is now for many, thankfully a thing of the past!

Bamboo Dental of Cardiff can offer a number of procedures to help you straightening your teeth and obtain that smile you have always wanted to have, delivered in a cost effective manner.

How do you carry out Teeth Straightening procedures in Cardiff?

Our dental practice is conveniently located on Cowbridge Road West, Cardiff, just minutes from M4 J33. We have a friendly dental support team and an expert dentist called Dr. Dan, well versed in methods of modern orthodontic procedures.
We have the experience and knowledge to safely straighten your teeth in a modern dental practice – we are well versed in cosmetic dentistry so we are the go to choice for many in South Wales.

We have a range of teeth straightening options, for more information on the processes of each procedure please visit these links:

Six Month Smiles Cardiff | Inman Aligner | Invisalign

Dr. Dan will be able to explain a range of options open to you when you choose to have your teeth straightened with us. You are never, therefore, restricted in terms of options with Bamboo!

For example, Bamboo Dental uses Invisalign, an invisible orthodontic aligner system with an emphasis on patient discretion and assuring as much comfort as feasibly possible for you when undergoing the teeth straightening procedure.

I’m interested in an invisible teeth straightening process, can you tell me some more about the Invisalign procedure please?

Invisalign involves having a number of fully removable aligners designed specifically to your individual requirements.

These aligners are then fitted to gently coerce the teeth into a new alignment and position.

Invisalign is unnoticeable to anybody who does not know you are undergoing a teeth straightening procedure.

You then may have to visit your dentist approximately every 6 weeks in order to keep the teeth straightening process on track and monitored.

How long does it take to achieve the desired results when having my teeth straightened through the Invisalign procedure?

As with all orthodontic procedures, it will heavily depend on individual circumstances.

It can take in some circumstances, as little as 12 weeks to see the results that have been agreed prior with your dentist.

Impressive results can be achieved through this revolutionary orthodontic system!

Will this process hurt? I have heard that teeth straightening is rather painful, is this true?

As with all teeth straightening procedures today, there’s been an emphasis on patient comfort factored into the design, whilst making sure the design is discreet.

Although with that said, this process can seem unfamiliar at first and can sometimes affect speech for a short period while you adjust to having a gentle pressure exerted on the teeth.

The Invisalign procedure is similar to some other teeth straightening procedures in the sense that pressure is exerted in a measured way over consecutive weeks.

I’m considering a number of teeth straightening options – why should I choose Invisalign in particular?

Bamboo Dental has found that a number of patients have praised how practical Invisalign is in terms of how slim-line the feel is to the aligners.

Also, unlike some other orthodontic procedures, there’s been a great emphasis on this product to make the process as discreet as possible, through removing any noticeable wires and unsightly brackets.

It’s important to note that a number of patients have commented that the system is practically invisible to view from an outside perspective.

This makes this teeth straightening process ideal when you want to tackle misaligned teeth, yet also not by making this public knowledge at work or within your personal life.

This teeth straightening procedure sounds like the option for me – how do I get started?

As with all teeth straightening procedures, you will first need a consultation with your dentist. To arrange a consultation in Cardiff, give us a call today or visit our contact page.

Your dentist will then be able to cover all of your questions you may have, and can assess whether this teeth straightening procedure is suitable for you.

Lumineers | A pain-free dramatic smile

LUMINEERS – Lumineers are Designed to Deliver a Beautiful Result with a Simple, Painless Process.

With cutting edge technology developed over 30 years, you can have the smile you’ve always wanted in less time and with far more comfort than you ever imagined. Lumineers are digitally designed to be ultra-thin (about as thin as a contact lens), so they can be applied seamlessly over your teeth to deliver a natural looking smile. That’s why Lumineers is the #1 patient-requested veneer system in the world.

Not All Veneers Are Made the Same. You Deserve the Best, So Accept No Imitations.

Traditional veneers are generally thicker, and can require irreversible removal of healthy tooth structure. The extensive preparation technique frequently requires shots and anaesthetic to minimize sensitivity and pain, and typically involves placement of acrylic temporaries for over two weeks between visits. The minimally invasive Lumineers technique typically eliminates the need for shots or temporaries, so while you wait for your custom-made Lumineers, you’ll look great and feel great. While many dentists offer veneers, not all dentists have been trained to deliver the signature benefits of Lumineers.

Transforming your smile couldn’t be any easier; in fact it takes just 2 easy visits.

1st Visit

After your initial consultation, your Certified Lumineers Dentist will take an impression of your upper and lower teeth, and send the mold to an authorized Lumineers laboratory along with photos and other records that ensure the very best case for you. Unlike traditional veneers, there is typically no need for extensive drilling, shots or unsightly acrylic temporaries.

2nd Visit

On your next visit, generally 4 weeks later, your dentist will place your Lumineers. Before Lumineers are bonded in place, it is important to try them on to ensure a good fit. Teeth are then moderately etched to prepare for placement and then bonded one by one. Your dentist will then check your bite to make sure your contacts are balanced to avoid chipping your Lumineers through the course of daily function.

    • “>Align and Veneers

      Align and Veneers

This young woman chose to align her teeth with an Inman Aligner first so the veneers would involve very little tooth preparation for a safer, stronger and healthier result. The Inman Aligner took only 6 weeks and the veneers were finished 4 weeks later.

The Inman aligner is not as “invisible” as clear aligners or 6 Month Smiles but has many of the advantages that the clear aligner system has over traditional braces in that it is removable so that is doesn’t disturb your eating and oral hygiene. In additional all movements are achieved with a single aligner so there is no need to change your aligners every week.

What is an Inman Aligner?

The Inman Aligner is a simple removable appliance used to align front teeth quickly and safely. It’s ideal as a stand alone treatment or to prealign teeth prior to further cosmetic options such as bonding or minimal veneers.

How does it work?

The Inman Aligner has Nickel Titanium coil springs that power two aligner bows that gently oppose each other, guiding the teeth into their new position. These gentle forces are active over a very large range of movement, which is why the Inman Aligner works so quickly.

The image below shows the squeeze effect of the two aligner bows on the front teeth. The inner bow pushes forwards, while the outer bow pulls back on the front teeth.

How long is the treatment with the Inman Aligner?

Most cases are completed within 6-18 weeks. Your Inman Aligner dentist will give you a realistic guide of what to expect. For suitable cases, the Inman Aligner is usually much faster than alternative orthodontic techniques.

What’s involved in Treatment with the Inman Aligner?

  • Find a Certified dentist who will determine if the Inman Aligner is suitable for you.
  • Impressions are needed so that the lab can fabricate your custom made Inman Aligner.
  • Initial fitting of the Aligner.
  • Wear the Aligner 16-20 hours a day
  • Regular Inman checks every 2-3 weeks.
  • As with other orthodontic treatment, after treatment is completed with the Inman Aligner, retention is recommended for life to prevent relapse. Retention can come in the form of a lingually bonded retainer or an Essix retainer.

    • “>Protrusion

      Protrusion

This young woman’s upper teeth only took 11 weeks to straighten with an Inman Aligner. As the teeth were gently pulled back all the spaces became fully closed and she loves the look of her new smile.

    • “>Lower Crowding

      Lower Crowding

An Inman Aligner was used to align the upper teeth in 10 weeks and the more crowded lowers took 12 weeks, also with an Inman Aligner. Once straight, the teeth were then whitened to complete the look and this young woman was thrilled with the result.

    • “>Upper Crowding

Headaches, migraine and chronic tension caused by teeth clenching

Bruxism (tooth grinding and tooth clenching) has many effects on the sufferer, most commonly tooth wear and broken teeth. One of the most debilitating effects of bruxism is headaches, migraines and chronic tension headaches, and these symptoms often go untreated because who would think that its caused by tooth grinding or clenching? The severity of headaches can be assessed by using the HIT6 Questionnaire, using a series of six simple questions the level of severity can be monitored.

During sleep we all do strange things, such as snore, kick our legs and talk in our sleep. But one of the most common things we do at some time during our lives is grind our teeth. For lots of people this goes unrecognised, some people may notice their teeth are wearing down or breaking, but for the unlucky ones, they suffer with headaches and migraines.

Did you ever wonder what these symptoms have in common which all make your life miserable ?
They all are controlled and/or moderated by the Trigeminal Nerve System. When the muscles start making your jaw clench and grind your teeth, the trigenminal nerve system gets bombarded with signals, if the system is compromised then it is unable to handle the signals and is misinterpreted and can result in a noxious stimulus to the fluid surrounding the brain resulting in a pounding headache or migraine.

Eliminate head and neck pain caused by teeth clenching with the SCi  £105

At Bamboo our Dental Splint Laboratory are dedicated to offering clinically effective and proven treatments for tooth grinding and tooth clenching. Bruxism (tooth clenching/grinding) is a very common issue effecting up to 80% of the population at some point during their lives. Often patients will go undiagnosed for many years suffering, often labelled with a TMJ dysfunction or atypical facial pain.

Bamboo Dental offer a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment service for bruxism and exclusively offer SCi appliance the most clinically proven appliance for bruxism, offering symptomatic relief and treatment for headaches and migraines.

Bruxism (“gnashing of teeth”) is a disorder that affects up to 80% of the population at some point during their lives. Bruxism is the grinding of teeth and clenching of the jaw that causes tooth wear, breakages, Temporomandibular Joint disorders (pain and limited movement of the jaw joint), migraines and headache. Both children and adults are affected and is most common in adults over 25 year old. Most people grind and/or clench their teeth occasionally and is usually worse during stressful periods.

There are many dental appliances available to patients, for many years full arch dental appliances have been more commonly used. More recently the introduction of smaller splints such as the SCi have proved to be extremely successful for reducing symptoms caused by tooth grinding and clenching.

Effects of Bruxism

Bruxism affects sufferers in many ways, some are short term side effects, but others are more long lasting and normally require a dentists intervention. Many symptoms are less likely to be linked to a Dental issue and are often left untreated for many years. It is very common for sufferers to have visited their GP and have had many investigations for other medical conditions and will have undergone MRI scans and brain scans amongst many other tests.

Short-term effects of bruxism
• Headaches and Migraines – People who clench and grind their teeth are 3 times more likely to suffer with regular headaches or migraines
• Facial myalgia (aching jaw & facial muscles) – Often diagnosed as Atypical Facial Pain
• Ear ache
• Tinnitus
• Sinus pains
• Stiff neck and shoulders
• Limited mouth opening
• Poor Sleep Quality
• Sleep disturbance of bed partner due to noise
• Tooth mobility and tooth loss
• Fractured tooth cusps and broken fillings
• Receding and inflamed gums
• Tongue Scalloping
Long-term effects of bruxism
• Prolonged untreated migraines
• Excessive facial muscle tone
• Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (sometimes called TMJD or just TMJ)
• Clicking or popping Jaw joint
• Tooth wear and tooth loss

Close up of set of teeth showing facts about teeth grinding and teeth clenching

Tooth wear and broken teeth

Bruxism is destructive, normal chewing and eating does not cause tooth wear or damage to your teeth. Your teeth should last you all your life and not wear down. If you grind your teeth you will be putting your teeth and gums under massive amounts of pressure. During sleep there is no feedback mechanism to tell your brain that your teeth are hurting because of too much pressure, hence we can put up to 40 times the amount of pressure on our teeth whilst we sleep, it is no surprise to see the amount of damage as in the picture above.

The most common signs of bruxism is shortened front teeth (incisal wear), in more severe cases we see signs (see above picture) such as cracks in enamel, abfractions (enamel loss at gum level), gum recession, bony exostosis, broken cusps of molar teeth and damage to restorations (crowns & bridges).

Treatment for Bruxism

There are many ways to manage Bruxism, the most common treatment is with Occlusal splints (Dental Appliances). There are many other therapies and treatments available but are generally seen as less effective. It is becoming more popular for Dentists to recommend a more holistic treatment plan, this may include combined treatments with Physiotherapist, Chiropractors and sometimes Hypnotherapists. Occlusal splints are generally designed to act as a mechanical separation of the teeth and may be as simple as a Soft mouthguard. Other dental treatments may also be considered as treatment, such as equilibration (grinding away tooth surface to make the teeth fit together better), orthodontics or crowns and veneers.

Most common types of Dental Splints

Other treatments for Bruxsim

  • Physiotherapy
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Anti-depressants
  • Orthodontics
  • Restorations – Crowns, Bridges and veneers

SCi (NTI-tss)

SCi – Sleep Clench Inhibitor (previously known as NTI-tss)

The SCi is the most clinically effective FDA approved treatment for TMD, bruxism, and medically diagnosed migraines

TMD, bruxism, chronic tension headaches, migraine …

Have you ever wondered what these symptoms have in common? all of which make your patient’s life miserable

How does the SCi work ?

The SCi reduces parafunctional intensity of the temporalismasseters and to a degree, the lateral pterygoids (the tiny muscles at your jaw joints that open your jaw), but still provides canine contact for temporalis clenching.

Try it yourself :

Take a pencil and place it between your molars or canines. With your hands feel the temporalis muscle bulge in the temple area.

Then transfer the pencil between your incisors and palpate the temporalis at the same spot on your temples again : do you feel the difference?

Studies show that the possible contraction intensity of the temporalis muscle when only the incisors occlude is reduced by an average of 70%!

Orthodontics/braces

What is orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment is that branch of dentistry concerned with the movement of teeth into a position that functions efficiently and looks fantastic. Cosmetic orthodontic treatment also know as short term orthodontic treatment solely focuses on moving the teeth to produce a fantastic natural looking smile.

How long does it take to get straight teeth?

Bamboo Dental will give you straight teeth in as little as 3 months in some cases using the Inman Aligner and with minimal interference to your everyday life.
The most popular Orthodontic treatment is Six Month Smiles, where the average treatment time is just six months. Some patients prefer an ‘invisible’ removable brace like Smilelign, and typically wear this for 6 to 12 months.

Will I be able to have Orthodontic treatment?

Cosmetic orthodontic treatment/cosmetic braces are not for everyone. There are some occasions where a person is unable to achieve a fantastic result using short-term orthodontic treatment alone, but at Bamboo Dental we currently provide straight teeth conveniently and quickly to over 95% of patients who enquire.

Does it hurt?

Any brace used to provide orthodontic treatment will cause a degree of discomfort. Cosmetic or short-term orthodontic treatment uses light forces to gently move teeth into position and any tenderness is easily managed and quick to go away.

Do I need teeth out?

Not usually. At Bamboo Dental 99% of our orthodontic treatment is completed without the need to remove a tooth. We safely create space to move teeth in other ways. This helps to reduce the treatment time considerably.

What are my options? And how do I arrange an appointment?

At Bamboo Dental we provide three types of orthodontic treatment:

> Six Month Smiles
This is our most popular treatment and the treatment that helped Dr Rogers achieve the award of ‘Best Young Dentist, Wales and South West England’.

Inman Aligner
This convenient removable brace is used to straighten the front four teeth only. Great for those who want straight front teeth in as little as three months.

Smilelign
This is a great option for those patients who want total invisibility, and the convenience of a removable brace.

To arrange a free consultation simply give us a call any time of the day, or send us a contact request and we’ll ring you at a time that is convenient for you.

Straight teeth

At Bamboo Dental we are dedicated to giving you white, natural straight teeth, resulting in a fantastic healthy looking smile.

Dentistry is evolving and moving away from irreversible complex smile makeovers that require anaesthetic to shape healthy teeth.

At Bamboo Dental we are class-leading advocates of natural smiles that last a lifetime. The easiest and most effective way of doing this is to straighten the teeth quickly discreetly and comfortably, before whitening the teeth and finally making small simple adjustments to tooth shape.

Almost everyone can achieve straight teeth. Take a look at our gallery before checking out our ‘straight teeth’ treatments.

Adult Braces

What are adult braces?

Adult braces are quickly becoming the most popular and desired treatment option in dentistry. Bamboo Dental is at the leading edge of this trend.

There is no age restriction to straightening a person’s teeth. Adults are just as keen as teenagers to achieve a straight white smile. Adult braces differ over the traditional ‘train-track’ brace in that they tend to be more discreet. Life gets in the way of lots of things we want to do, and the things we want to do shouldn’t get in the way of life.

Adult braces have been developed to give you maximum flexibility in terms of convenience.
From ‘invisible’ braces, to removable braces that can give you straight teeth in just three months. Adult braces give you the choice.

‘Clear’ braces

What are clear braces?

The trend in cosmetic orthodontics has been made possible by the development of clear braces. Gone are the days when you would have to wear metal ‘train track’ braces for 2 years. The term ‘clear braces’ refers to the new wave of cosmetic teeth straightening options that sit discreetly on your smile.

Currently, the clearest brace is a removable ‘invisible’ positioner, of which there are many types. You may have heard of Invisalign, but there are many different brand names providing essentially the same product. That is: a metal free removable ‘clear’ or ‘invisible’ brace that is comfortable and effective and at the same time very very discreet.

At Bamboo Dental we use a clear brace known as Smilelign.

To begin the process, computer images of your teeth are generated representing how your teeth look before treatment, at the end of treatment and at every stage inbetween. These images are used to construct acrylic models of your teeth on which the clear braces are made. You sequentially wear each clear brace for approximately 2 weeks before moving onto the next one.

Treatment times can be as little as six months for very simple tooth alignment however treatment times are usually up to 12 months, and occasionally 18 months.

Prices start from £145/ month for 12 months or £51/month for 24 months with initial 30% deposit.

Clear braces are a great way to secretly get a fantastic smile.

We have an expert dental team, on hand to start fighting bad breath often very quickly and in cost effective manner.

What is Bad Breath and Halitosis? | How is this caused?

Quite often and in the majority of cases of bad breath we see it is caused by a poor oral hygiene routines, this also could point to the onset of gum disease occurring and developing. This is why it’s so important to have regular dental check-ups in Cardiff, to allow your dentist to find the early stages of gum disease or tooth decay.

Quite often a modern lifestyle aggravates halitosis further, often through the consumption of alcohol or smoking habits for example, this further dries the mouth causing bad breath symptoms to magnify and worsen.

There are also sometimes medical reasons which can cause the problem of bad breath that could also be the reason for unpleasant odours originating from the mouth.

Causes of bad breath can originate from the following areas:

The accumulation of poor oral hygiene over time

Poor oral hygiene and the lack of brushing and flossing can mean that food decomposes in those hard to reach areas.

During the decomposition this can release foul-smelling odours.

Consumption habits of certain foods, smoking habits and alcohol.

Smoking habits and alcohol can cause the drying of the mouth, which can further exacerbate the problem of halitosis.

Eating food types such as onions and garlic can also worsen bad breath if trapped between the spacing of the teeth and allowed to decompose.

So this is why it is so important to incorporate flossing into your dental hygiene routine!

Poorly fitted dental fillings

Dental fillings that have been poorly designed and fitted can allow for leaking and aggravation of the gum lining.

This can also be caused by poorly fitted dental crowns for example as well.

Medical conditions

It is possible that bad breath can be caused by certain medical conditions and from certain medications.

For example dry mouth (xerostomia) is a medical condition that affects the level of saliva that is present within your oral cavity.

Properties originating from certain medications could therefore be the reason for bad breath and dietary habits can cause dry mouth that can further increase the chances of halitosis occurring.

Other medical conditions such as sinus pain or nasal mucus becoming infected can also affects one’s breath.

“If you are self-conscious about visiting your dentist in Cardiff, why not try as a first attempt of cutting down on the amount of alcohol or cigarettes and tobacco you consume- to see if this alleviates some of the signs of bad breath?”

Sometimes once known causes of bad breath are reduced this can have a noticeable effect on ones breath.

What forms of dental hygienist services does your practice currently offer in Cardiff?

Bamboo Dental has a highly trained and capable team of dental hygienists, who are able to offer you professional deep cleaning of your teeth and also to treat possible bad breath.

Traditionally this procedure of removing stubborn plaque and decaying matter is called a scale and polish. We offer this service as well as many other preventative dentistry procedures.

Why not give us a call if you would like to supplement your oral hygiene routine with a professional deep clean of the oral cavity?

Why is visiting Bamboo’s team of hygienists so important?

Daily our teeth are under constant attack from acid erosion and the build-up of plaque and tartar.

We may have a daily dental routine in place, which we think is adequate, yet does this process have the ability to cut through the stubborn substances that cling to our teeth?

The truth is no-matter how sophisticated our modern toothbrushes are, they may not have the power to cut through those hard to reach places within your mouth such as the back teeth for example.

This is why you need a dental hygienist who can clean through the hard tartar layer and help improve your oral health, while offering you information to help keep your teeth healthier for longer!

Why should I pay for regular visits to see a Dental Hygienist at Bamboo Dental? Surely this is the dentist’s job to inform me about when things go wrong?

It’s far too easy with our modern lifestyles to forget about the importance of preventative dentistry.

Dentists are in agreement that dental hygienists are in a great position to be able to spot potential problems in the mouth before they arise. Regular hygienist visits are essential for maintaining gum health and preventing gum disease but also for general oral health.

Therefore your dental hygienists can offer you an early warning system of problem areas that may be encountered further down the line unless they are tackled head on now.

So do not wait to see your dentist, unless of course you know of a problem now, why not use your hygienist at regular intervals in-between regular dental check-ups?

Also your dental hygienist will be able to cast their expert eye within the oral cavity and look for any abnormalities or problem areas that may need urgent dental attention.

You may have over-looked these areas, therefore the dental hygienist can sign-post you straight to a dentist if the need arises to tackle a problem they may have noticed.

Also your dental hygienist will have other options at their disposal to protect your teeth, such as applying fluoride via a varnish formula for example.

Fluoride varnish is used in some circumstances to help protect and strengthen the outer enamel surface of your teeth.

Your dental hygienist is therefore focused on preventing gum disease also. An area of dentistry that many people may not be fully aware of is the implications of gum disease and its overall impact on our health which can be severe.

Gum disease should be taken very seriously indeed. There is now very sound evidence linking gum/periodontal disease to a number of serious systemic diseases like diabetes and heart disease. We believe that if many more people actually knew about the implications of gum disease, then visiting a hygienist would be seen as just as important as visiting your dentist.

So we would advise a routine dental check-up, via your dentist and to supplement this with a hygienist visit allowing them to look after your teeth through as many methods as feasibly possible. If you are serious about looking after your teeth in Cardiff do call us today!

Can you tell me a little bit more about what services your dental hygienists offer to help protect me from gum disease then?

Bamboo Dental offers traditional scaling and polishing and this is to remove the most stubborn and hard to reach deposits of tartar.

Through this process an intensive cleaning of the oral area can help to leave a fresh feeling left within the oral cavity. This can improve bad breath also if this persists.

Why visiting your dental hygienist can change your dental regime forever!

We are said to be creatures of habit, that is why we often wake up and perform the same oral care regime daily, without any changes as the years pass by.

Yet we must ask ourselves – are we currently using the best approaches to protect our teeth over the long term?

Part of a dental hygienists responsibility is to look at your overall oral health and to assess how well you’re brushing your teeth and carrying out your oral care regime currently.

If weaknesses are found through your brushing techniques for example, then a dental hygienist can spend time with you explaining the correct brushing methods that you need to adopt. This may involve advice for looking after certain teeth in particular, or your whole oral cavity if needed.

Apart from scale and polish procedures, can your dental hygienist offer anything else?

Dental hygienists play a vital part in a modern dental practice setting – they supplement the activities of the dentist and are also able to spend more time with you explaining crucial aspects of preventative dentistry.

Also dental hygienists can take dental x-rays where needed, and they can apply fluoride varnishes. Once prescribed by a dentist a hygienist can oversee your teeth whitening treatment. Such an approach might be taken to offer a more intensive form of protecting your teeth if it is noted that the dental enamel is wearing thin, or needs a “fluoride boost” in order to help strengthen your outer surface of your teeth.

Can your dental hygienist therefore help prevent against the onset of certain dental diseases from occurring?

A primary focus of a dental hygienist is to help slow down the effect of acid erosion and decay on your teeth through educating some patients about good oral care methods as well helping to protect you from gum disease through removing plaque.

Calculus is a very hard substance also called tartar, which can be removed and depleted which helps slow down the onset of gum disease. This is just one example of how our hygienists can help you.

I’m quite fearful about visiting a dentist in Cardiff. I am an extremely anxious patient, so can you offer me some form of reassurance that such procedures do not hurt?

Dental hygienists are expertly trained and have to undergo rigorous training in order to complete their valuable work. [See our meet the team page her]

It is widely regarded that the scale and polishing procedure, for example, is in-fact a procedure that can be a matter for your regular oral care routine in terms of protecting your teeth and is considered a pain-free procedure in the majority of cases. With all dental procedures if you feel any form of discomfort or pain there is always pain relief on hand to help improve patient comfort.

At Bamboo Dental, our hygienists are able to gently massage a numbing gel on the gums. This allows for pain free advanced gum treatment without the need for injection.

So you do not need to suffer when you undertake any form of dental procedure and patient care here at Bamboo is our number one priority at our dental practice, located within Cardiff.

I am worried about the dental costs. I don’t mind undertaking dental hygienist procedures on my teeth, but can all costs be made clear to me in advance?

We totally understand this view-point and worry over what the final dental bill will be, this is why we offer a clear pricing policy.

At Bamboo Dental some patients when visiting our dental practice even when sometimes in a great deal of pain, there is still a primary focus from some patients, as to what the final cost will be.

A common concern is therefore “how much will this actually cost, to get out of pain totally” , we understand this concern fully.

We operate a forward thinking modern dental practice in Cardiff, and we offer cost-effective solutions for both traditional, preventative and cosmetic dentistry.

What we always seek to generate is loyal custom and satisfaction with the level of service that has been delivered.

This is why we employ friendly and approachable staff at our reception area and throughout the practice accompanied by a clear pricing policy.

Our staff members will be able to give you cost estimates in advance, so you know exactly what the dental hygiene procedure will cost you, and the process is made clear and unambiguous.

Before and after pictures of a young woman wearing crowns.
With a specially designed dental crown covering fitted, it will allow for the broken or decomposed tooth to become improved in its aesthetic appearance overall and to stop dental pain also.

So not all crowns are chosen just to fix and repair teeth, sometimes crowns are used to improve the aesthetic look of the tooth overall as well.

If you have a slightly misshapen tooth that has become an undesired colour then a dental crown may be the solution that can change the appearance of your teeth for the better!

A crown tooth covering is sometimes also referred to as a “dental cap” but have the same meaning in dentistry.

When is a dental crown required?

If a tooth has sustained substantial damage perhaps through acid erosion overtime or decay then a filling may not be deemed sufficient enough in order to repair the problem.

In these mentioned cases a dental crown may be required.

Crowns are also required as a protective covering to protect fractured teeth and the remaining tooth’s structure from experiencing further damage and decay.

For example in contact sports such as rugby, part of the tooth may become fractured and damaged therefore in order to repair such large damage sustained a crown may be needed urgently.

We offer an emergency dental service in Cardiff. More information can be found here: Emergency Dentist Cardiff.

“To supplement our traditional and cosmetic dentistry services, we also offer an emergency dentist service for late evenings and weekends in Cardiff!”

Misshaped teeth or discoloured teeth

It’s important also to know that crowns are also often used in cosmetic dentistry- this is in order to correct teeth with undesired shaping or those which have become noticeably discoloured over time.

Can you give me a little bit more insight into the procedure into what happens when a dental crown is fitted in Cardiff by Dr Dan?

 Crown Dentists Cardiff

What will happen at your first visit to Bamboo Dental in order to get a crown fitted:

First visit:

Your first meeting will be to meet our highly experienced dental team and our reception staff, who will show you to a modern and comfortable waiting room.

Then at an initial appointment with our dentist here at Bamboo Dental, we then confirm that a crown is the best option for you.

After this we may carry out the reduction work required to the actual tooth. This is in order to neatly fit a permanent crown at a later date.

Our dentist then will take an impression of the tooth using a specialist material, a form of putty, which will allow for a detailed understanding of the mouth.

This is in order to form a blueprint and to design the tooth’s crown by the specialist laboratory technician.

Dental impressions are then sent away to a specialist dental technician, who will then carefully craft the dental crown ready for fitting at Bamboo Dental.

Dr Dan in the meantime would protect the remaining tooth’s structure through placing a temporary crown covering until a permanent crown has been designed.

We will take the time to understand if you are an anxious dental patient and to recommend solutions to help you throughout getting your crown fitted.

Second visitation to Bamboo Dental:

Normally at the second visitation to our dental clinic within Cardiff, our dentist will carefully remove the temporary crown covering, this is then ready for the tooth’s structure to receive its permanent crown covering.

If you and the dentist are then content with the fit and appearance of the crown it will then be fitted on top of your tooth’s structure.

It is fitted using a specialist dental cement, which will be applied to the crown and the remaining tooth’s structure.

Please do remember that although most dental crowns do not decompose, good dental care is needed in order to protect the gums and surrounding area to make sure the area stays healthy and protected.

Also your dental crown will be checked at regular dental check ups with us at our dental practice.

This is to make sure the dental crown has been fitted in the desired way and that the gum lining has received the crown in the desired way by the dentist.

“You may then also be asked after short period of time to return to Bamboo Dental just to make sure that you are happy with the crown covering, and that it fits comfortably and that it fits adequately”.

Have I got a choice of what dental crown is actually fitted?

There are a range of dental crowns that can be fitted- in recent years materials that can be used have changed quite substantially, to more modern materials.

For example you can pick dental crowns that are more for aesthetic purposes. This is because they may be made from porcelain materials or you may pick a less invasive and malleable crowns such as a gold crown.

Many dentists still prefer to work with gold crowns as they are easier to work into the desired positioning, and require the removal of less tooth tissue.

Bamboo Dental has a wide range of crowns to choose from, which differ in price depending on the material you choose.

It’s important to discuss with your dentist in Cardiff the look that you wish to create and we can advise you on the most adequate dental crown to suit your needs.

You may wish to pick a metal free crown or a composite material for aesthetic purposes.

Whatever you choose Bamboo Dental will have a crown solution just for you.

If you are somebody who tends to grind your teeth then it may be worth thinking about receiving a metal crown or a high strength porcelain crown.

This is because they will be able to withstand more forces exerted on them overtime, if you are someone who tends to grind or clench your teeth allot.

Why should I choose a crown as opposed to a dental veneer?

As with all dental procedures it will depend on individual circumstances as to whether a crown or a veneer is best suited to particular needs.

In the majority of cases a dental crown provides a lot more strength and longevity in terms of its purpose, as compared to dental veneers.

By allowing the passage of air more freely reduces snoring.

Patient Testimonials

Alistair Gooseman, Grimsby
“I do snore badly and also have high blood pressure and hypertension, but wearing Sleepwell has meant that I sleep better at night and have more energy and focus both personally and with my own business”.

Mrs Wood
“I have been married to my husband for 42 years now and have threatened divorce in the past due to his snoring! We have tried everything, including an operation to reduce his snoring but nothing has worked – until he was fitted with Sleepwell. We are amazed by the difference it has made to our lives now that we both don’t get woken up by every night with his snoring”.

Peter Dodd
“Sleepwell has changed my life. I feel that I have been born again as I am finally getting a great night’s sleep”..

M. Adebayo
“I have had a snoring problem for a very long time and have tried everything. I have actually tried CPAP and it never worked for me, but since I have used the Sleepwell splint it has completely changed my life. It is amazing how a small customised mouthpiece like that can have so much effect on me. Having had such profound problems I am not sure that I can actually do without the splint, I just like it. The snoring was so bad I actually woke everybody up at home. Now they can barely hear me when I sleep”.

D. Lavis
“I have suffered from breathing difficulties for many years and more recently I have begun to snore rather loudly. In 1999 I was referred to an ENT consultant and it was discovered that I had a polyps in my nose and a displaced septum. I attended a sleep clinic and was diagnosed as suffering from sleep apnoea. In November 2001 surgery was performed to rectify the problems with my septum and to remove the polyps. This was a partial solution since I can now breathe comfortably and freely. However, a further stay in the sleep clinic indicated that I still suffered from sleep apnoea and still snored. At this point it was suggested that a possible solution was to wear a splint at night to bring my jaw forwards and open up the air passages. This has worked very well and snoring has been replaced by deep breathing. I thought that it may be difficult to become accustomed to wearing it at night but this has turned out not to be the case. I found quite quickly that I stopped noticing it and the relief on my air passage has greatly improved the quality of my sleep”.

The main snoring cause is due to the partial closure of the airway during sleep. During sleep, muscles in the neck relax and for some people the soft tissue in the upper throat vibrates, which makes the sound we know as snoring. Now you know about snoring do you know about Sleep Apnoea?

Some snorers stop snoring and also stop breathing – a medical condition called Sleep Apnoea. This is caused by the airway closing completely during sleep thereby preventing snorers from breathing. This condition is called Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).

Below is a Flash Animation that shows the anatomy of snoring and how the Sleepwell device can help reduct the causes of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.

About snoring

What Are The Causes of Snoring

Snorers are often made to feel guilty, however the causes of snoring are often beyond their control. Certain factors increase the chances of being a snorer:

  • Physiology – The shape of the airway in some people makes snoring more likely.
  • Being Overweight – Excess body fat increases the chances of snoring.
  • Age – As we age weaker throat muscles increase snoring.
  • Lifestyle – Some people snore after drinking alcohol or taking sleeping tablets due to the extra relaxation caused in the neck and throat.

Do men snore more than women?

Yes. (55% vs 45% VAR international 2005)

Men carry excess body fat on the upper body resulting in higher levels of snoring. Also, in younger women hormones prevent the collapse of the airway during sleep

Cosmetic Dentistry | E-Max Veneers

Veneers Solve a Variety of Dental Problems to Give You the Perfect Smile in Just 2 Easy Visits.

Bamboo Dental of Cardiff are committed to bringing you the latest cosmetic dental procedures and are pleased to provide E-Max dental as one of our veneer options to you.

Brighten Stained and Discoloured Teeth…Permanently

Staining and discolouration are common problems. Teeth whitening is a common option, but may not eliminate all the stains, or last as long. Veneers provide a long-lasting white smile, no matter what you eat or drink! Whether the stains are caused by time, drinking coffee or red wine, or by tetracycline staining, veneers can transform your smile with a permanently bright and natural look.

Restore Chipped Teeth

Do you have a chip on one of your teeth? Is it right in the front where everyone can see? Veneers offer a painless and pleasant way to fix your chipped tooth for good.

Eliminate Spacing and Gaps

Is there a gap between your front teeth or some other spacing problem that you wish you didn’t have? Veneers are a fast, non-invasive procedure for eliminating gaps between teeth. In just 2 short visits to your dentist, these ultra-thin “smile shapers” will eliminate excess space.

Align Crooked Teeth

Veneers provide a painless, fast alternative to braces that offer a perfectly-aligned look along with a beautiful smile. Now you can have a completely corrected smile, in just 2 short visits to your dentist.

Reshape Small or Misshapen Teeth

Misshapen teeth can really detract from your appearance. Not with veneers. Ultra-thin veneers can be simply placed over your original teeth, and in most cases don’t require the removal of any sensitive tooth structure.

Renew Old Dental Work

No matter your age, old crowns and bridgework add many years to your face. Veneers can easily be placed on top of crowns and bridgework to give you a beautiful smile—painlessly.

Bamboo Dental of Cardiff are committed to bringing you the latest cosmetic dental procedures and are pleased to provide E-Max dental as one of our veneer options to you.

What are E-Max Veneers?

E-Max veneers are made from an extremely durable and high strength porcelain allowing the veneers to be very thin indeed. But not only this, they are one of the most natural looking veneers ever to be developed.

E-Max veneers can be made as thin as 0.5mm, which means the tooth surface can be preserved, and in many cases without the need for an injection first.

Normally substantial etching and removing of the enamel surface is needed with such cosmetic procedures, yet with E-Max this is now a thing of the past or substantially reduced!

This makes this veneer type created out of pressed ceramic materials very popular in Cardiff. This is due to the minimally intrusive nature of the procedure needed in order to implement without causing pain or discomfort to you without major removal of the tooth’s enamel surface.

This easier, more practical veneer type is directly because of the veneer’s design and innovation in veneer technology, which follows a more patient friendly type of dental work, for comfort and style in mind.

E-Max veneers are very different in the sense that these veneers can be fitted directly to the harder enamel outer surface of the tooth (The enamel surface directly, and not dentin layer).

This type of veneer therefore provides a much stronger adhesion between the tooth and the veneer itself, this is because of its stronger grip to the harder enamel surface, as opposed to the dentin which is a softer layer of the tooth’s structure.

Because of the simplicity of this veneer type often this cosmetic procedure can be carried out in only two visits to our dental practice located within Cardiff, South Wales.

What’s worth bearing in mind also is that because this veneer type is extremely strong this makes the veneer less prone to damage, and chipping of the surface over time so you can stay looking good for longer!

What does the actual cosmetic procedure involve when getting E-Max Veneers fitted?

Prior to carrying out any cosmetic dental procedure, it is important to allow your dentist to evaluate if the cosmetic work planned through E-Max will be suitable for you, and if the condition of your teeth will allow the veneer to be bonded to the receiving tooth’s structure.

This will also allow you to have a discussion with your dentist about the look that you wish to create through this cosmetic dentistry and which areas you want to enhance and concentrate on the most.

Dr Dan our dentist at Bamboo will then take a putty like impression of your teeth while also recording the shading of your existing tooth’s colour.

Your impression will then be sent away to a dental technicians lab – who are able to carefully craft replica veneers specifically to your needs and contours required.

You will then be able to wear these replica veneers for a short period of time before confirming with Dr Dan that you are happy with the result. We will the proceed with the final fitting.

Finally this is where often there is strong differentiation in terms of results in between the standard of dentistry received, so choose an experienced cosmetic dentist in Cardiff, one well versed in veneers, teeth straightening procedures, orthodontics, and teeth whitening for example.

Dr Dan’s experience will allow him to make sure that your dental veneers are fitted in an optimum way, and that is achieved by observing the bite impression after fitting the veneers, this is to make sure that maximum comfort is obtained for the patient who receives such a procedure.

Also Dr Dan will be able to spend time putting the finishing touches to dental veneers, by making sure the ceramic is carefully perfected into place, this is so that both the dentist and patient are satisfied with the end result.

What are the advantages of choosing E-Max dental veneers?

Apart from being extremely thin requiring little preparation of the tooth’s surface, E-Max veneers are widely considered extremely high strength and durable making them a more cost-effective veneer for most.

We are now going to look at ways in which the E-max veneers can be used to improve the cosmetic appearance of your teeth.

Covering Single or Multiple Discoloured Teeth

Perhaps you have a single chipped or discoloured tooth that is affecting your confidence.

Through E-Max dental veneers it is entirely possible to cover a single tooth to make a grey or yellowish tooth appear healthy once again and restore your smile to its former glory!

To Lighten the Shade of the ‘Social Six’ Set of Teeth

Many people have cosmetic dental veneers fitted over what are called social six teeth.

These set of teeth are often referred to as the social six, as they are the most visible within the oral cavity and are seen when you smile or talk for instance.

Perhaps you are unhappy with the alignment, colour or gap spacing, then E-Max dental veneers may be the option for you.

Improve the Colouration and Shape of Your Teeth

Perhaps you are unhappy with the colour of your teeth due to smoking habits or consumption of certain foods or beverages over the years, then dental veneers can help mask this problem area.

To Improve Small Gap Spacing Issues In-Between Your Teeth

Have you always been self-conscious about the slight spacing issues between your teeth?

Dental veneers can provide in some circumstances the perfect solution for making your teeth appear more uniform and symmetrical.

You will wear the clear aligners until they have moved your teeth to the final position prescribed by Dr Rogers.

Smilelign clear braces are almost invisible and very difficult to see whilst you are wearing them. The aligners are individually hand made to be as slim line and as comfortable as possible.
