Creepy crawly Bush Tucker smoothies, head shaving, freezing cold ice baths and Dr Oli's full body wax (ouch!) - just a few of the things that the Bamboo Team got up to, to help fundraise for baby Izaac and his family.
What Was the Fundraiser All About?
As a diamond provider of our most popular treatment, Six Month Smiles, the Bamboo team has been given the opportunity to offer so much more than simply dentistry. We've been able to change lives for the better through transforming hundreds of smiles every year. When we found out about Izaac and what his family were going through, it really struck a chord and we chose to react to that in the best way we know how - taking action to help make their lives at least somewhat easier, at least as good as it can be in this tough time.
You see, Izaac is a 15 month old boy. He is one of three triplets which is a handful enough for any parent. But, little Izaac was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia and this has had led to the family going through a truly difficult time. Both parents have had to leave work to care for their three children and this inevitably has led to financial pressure for all involved. As a way to help, Dr Dan and the team at Bamboo decided to hold a fundraising campaign to help take that pressure off as much as possible.
Bamboo Fundraiser for Izaac Raises Over £3000!
We had an aim of raising £3000 for poorly Izaac and we are more than happy to say that we have exceeded this and are continuing to raise money over the next week. As part of the fundraising day, we took on several challenges including Dr Dan having his head shaved in solidarity with baby Izaac. Here's what Bamboo Head Dentist Dr Dan said about the event:
‘We are humbled by all who supported us in our fundraiser for Izaac. We have the best job in the world!! Day in, day out, with Six Month Smiles we’re able to change lives for the better, but it’s more than this… It transcends the obvious, the Six Month Smiles community gives you the best YOU that you can find, that day, or that week. We hope that Izaac and his family feel supported, we hope that by standing together with them yesterday they feel loved. We’re rooting for you little man… stay strong.’
Creepy Crawly Bush Tucker Trials
Challenge 1 was to drink a concoction of mealworms, crickets, locusts and other gruesome bugs in a not so aesthetically pleasing green gunge, garnished with various bugs - eww!
The pungent smoothies didn't leave a bad taste in the mouth though, as the girls knew it was all for a good cause in raising money for Izaac and his family.
Freezing Ice Bath Challenge
Two of the girls, Cassie and Brydie, took part in a bath of ice cold water topped with, you guessed it, more ice. They slowly shivered their way into the tub and experienced the arctic temperatures in support of Izaac.
Dr Dan Head Shave
Dr Dan was willing to forgo his locks of hair in an act of solidarity with Izaac. A few different people manned the hair clippers including his very own dental nurse, Jess, who gladly and no doubt enjoyably, clipped the hair from Dans head.
Dr Oli Full Body Wax
Then the wax strips came out and Dr Oli prepared for pain. Legs, chest and even nipple hair was torn away leaving a red chested Dr Oli in much pain - all in support of Izaac.
Overall we are just humbled and happy that we were able to do something, anything at all to give support to Izaac and his family and make what they are going through just the tiniest bit more cop-able for them.
Six Month Smiles for Those In Need
After the successful fundraising event, we are also focusing on helping more and more people by spreading confident smiles to those in need. We are using our diamond provider experience of the Six Month Smiles treatment to help others who have had difficulty in their lives due to their smile. You may have seen a few videos about this across social media in which we selected three people to provide treatment to completely for free in an effort to give them back their confidence and change their lives for the better. Keep a look out as we'll be sharing more updates of their journey with you across Facebook and our website.
