The Benefits of Teeth Whitening

benefits of teeth whitening Teeth Whitening

There are many benefits, both physically and psychologically, to having sparkly white teeth. People who undergo a teeth whitening procedure notice a difference not just to their internal state in terms of general feelings of well-being but also to how they're perceived by other people. When you have a new pair of pearly whites, you'll have the self-confidence you need to impress a date or stand out at a job interview. Below are some more benefits to having a teeth whitening treatment, as well as how to keep your teeth white well after you've had your teeth whitened.

How Getting Teeth Whitening will Benefit your Life

When you get your teeth whitened, you're more likely to keep better care of them to keep them looking good, so users will often create a healthy oral hygiene plan; consisting of brushing, flossing, mouthwash and regular trips to the dentist for a checkup. Because your new sparkling smile will stand out, people will naturally focus on your teeth, therefore minimising the appearance of wrinkles, such as the frown line. You will also be perceived as losing many years from your face as having white teeth is associated sub-consciously with being more youthful, the cause of this is that as we age, external factors like smoking and teeth staining food and drinks damage and discolour your teeth.

Psychological Benefits to getting Teeth Whitening

When we smile, our body naturally produces endorphin's, which are the 'feel good' hormones which brighten our day. This will lead to having more confidence when going to a job interview - there have been studies which show that people with a nice smile are more prepared when going to a job interview. This newfound confidence will be associated with positive traits to your potential employer, increasing your chances of finding employment. The confidence you gain from teeth whitening will not just help you when looking for employment, it will also help tremendously when it comes to your love life - people with whiter teeth are shown in studies to be more outgoing and engaging, this is a direct result of the self-confidence you gain from getting whiter teeth. The bottom line is that by gaining whiter teeth, you will be perceived by others as being more successful in all areas of life, also you will be deemed more trustworthy due to the 'halo' effect that people perceive when you have white teeth.

How to keep teeth white after a procedure

While you may be amazed by the immediate results after a procedure, there will be maintenance needed to keep them sparkling. Here are some tips on how to keep your teeth white after a visit to Bamboo dental;

  • Brush twice daily, in the morning and after dinner in the evening. Brushing at these times are optimal as they prevent acid or chemicals from staining or weakening teeth.
  • Cut down on food and drinks that are likely to stain or damage teeth, such as coffee, red wine, turmeric, beetroot and acidic foods like lemons.
  • Consider using a straw when drinking, this will prevent the harmful acids and chemicals from making contact with your teeth.
  • Stick to a 'white diet' for two weeks after your whitening procedure. Foods such as rice, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese are the most popular foods to consume during a 'white diet'.
  • It is recommended to use whitening floss and mouthwash after brushing, twice a day. Using floss and mouthwash remove the particles between the teeth that your toothbrush might not be able to reach, your oral hygiene will also be improved when floss and mouthwash is used on a regular basis.
  • Do not smoke, the nicotine and tar in the tobacco make your teeth yellow in a short period of time. After years of smoking it is not uncommon for users teeth to become brown.
