With Christmas now less than a month away Cardiff is getting ready. There’s wonderful Christmas shopping to be had in the city, the countdown to Christmas in the Bay and of course fantastic Christmas craft markets and other special events.  So what will you be doing in Cardiff in the run up to Christmas?  Here are a few things we’re not going to miss!

Christmas at Cardiff Bay

This fantastic annual event takes place on Friday 6th – Sunday 8th December. Expect entertainment for the whole family, music from brass bands, carol singing, funfair rides and more. Santa’s grotto will also be there and there will be arts and crafts workshops for everyone to take part in. On Saturday night get ready for the lantern procession lead by Father Christmas and a big countdown for the spectacular firework display over the Bay.

Victorian Christmas Tours

Experience an authentic Victorian Christmas at Cardiff Castle. Meet your costumed guide who will take you on your magical tour and see the Castle as it prepares for Christmas Day. See the great banqueting hall all set up for dinner and the library where you will be greeted by carol singers performing all of the classics and more. There is the chance to meet Santa too in the famous Black Tower. Pre Booking is recommended as this is a popular event.

Christmas Shopping and Markets

Cardiff offers excellent shopping at all times of year but at Christmas it really steps up a gear. There’s a whole range of places to head to to fill up those Christmas stockings, with a range of high street names, designer’s brands and more. Check out Queen’s Arcade and Capitol Shopping Centre where you’ll find everything from Whittard and Footlocker to Hobbs and Jaeger – you’re sure to find gifts to put a smile on the faces of all of your loved ones. If handmade gifts and independent shops are more your thing, check out the boutique stores of the Edwardian and Victorian arcades where you can find many great gifts.

The Christmas markets are also back after a very successful run last festive period and these are an excellent place to pick up Welsh arts and crafts, handmade jewellery and other homemade gifts as well as a range of tasty food and drink. They will be running from 15th November right up until Sunday 23rd December.
